ABOUT
Music for Yoga Practice
Welcome to Pravritti Music

I compose music for Yoga Practice.
Mostly I use these in my own classes, which averages three a day, six days a week. I will typically use an album for about nine weeks while working on the same sequence.

I need music that is 30 beats per minute or less and has a consistent flow. It should compliment and harmonize with the deep breathing rhythms.

For basic classes it should have a soft melodic flow, for deeper classes it should be ambient, as the melody, or actually listening to the music, is distracting from the calm focused movements.

Even when the flow is physically intense you want music that compliments the meditation. It should avoid giving you a beat, (over 60 bpm speeds the heart rate) which is want you want in aerobics classes.

Music should come from a higher space, so for instance blues tends to tap into an enjoyment of drama, that drama, or emotional play, is good for listening, but not when your goal is being, consciousness, and bliss...

Music in classes should be easy to speak to, so I tend towards drones and organ pads, that promote short precise cues.

I personally teach and practice Triyoga, which is a flow based system. Most of my classes start with breathing exercises that harmonize the body and mind. At the beginning of class we often have people coming in late (work, traffic, etc.) So I will often use a mantra piece such as Signs of Bliss, Aim Hreem Shreem, or Dew Point Matrix, to promote the breathing and cover over people setting up. These songs are typically found at the end of my albums, so for classes I start on the last track with the playlist or player set to repeat. The breathing and song seamlessly transition into the postural flows.

I also usually have one upbeat song at the end of the playlist, so I can manually forward to the next track, to help people moving out of the classroom.
These are albums I recomend...
